The Internal Clock

I believe we’ve successfully navigated through another Daylight Savings Time change. Strangely, the pugs cannot tell time, but they always know what time it is. Yes, I’ve trained them on a schedule, but sometimes I would like to tweak that schedule–just a little.

Saturday mornings I would prefer to sleep a little later than to be outside at 7 a.m. half asleep in my bathrobe waiting for Shade to finish. (What was the hurry after all?)

They are just as intuitive in the afternoon. Eyes pop open, legs stretch, snorts and yawns follow as they bring themselves back to the land of the living. I don’t even have to look at the clock. I know it is 2:45 p.m. Time to take a walk, take care of business and eat. The most beloved and anticipated time of day…dinner time. Perhaps it’s not an internal clock after all, but an internal dinner bell.

With Halloween just around the corner, many of us will have mounds of yummy chocolate candy in the house. Its wonderful aroma is tempting not only to us, but to our beloved food hounds as well. Somehow our crafty little black Pug helped himself to some chocolate decadence last weekend. A worrisome 24 hours followed as he kept bringing up evidence of his crime.

Just a reminder that chocolate is considered a poisonous food to dogs. The ASPCA has a list a foods particularly harmful to pets. Take a quick look–some of the foods listed may surprise you.

Canine Meadows: Off-Leash Dog Park

Yesterday was Buster’s ninth birthday, and we celebrated with a trip to the dog park.

Buster and Shade are very excited as we near the double-gated entrance.

The weather was cool, and we had a great time. I posted more pictures on a separate page; please take a look!

Shedding, shedding, more shedding

We all love our Pugs, but there is one thing we could seriously do without: their constant shedding. I have watched the hair rain off Buster as my mother lovingly stroked and massaged him. This cast-off hair somehow takes on a life of its own, weaving itself into the upholstery fabric never to be easily retrieved again.

Daily brushing outside obviously curtails the shedding inside. The very, very best brushing tool I have found is the FURminator. It effectively removes the loose, dead undercoat with minimal effort on our part. (Much easier than vacuuming the sofa!)
